Our Executive Director, Mireille Cronin Mather was honored to be selected as a mentor to a group of fifty students at the Clinton Global Initiative University (CGI U). Taking place in Washington DC, the conference included students, topic experts, and celebrities in a discussion of pressing global issues. Mireille worked with student participants on the topic of economic development in this exciting opportunity to engage young leaders in FSD’s mission.

The Sarlo Foundation continued support of the nationally recognized Sarlo Scholars program, a comprehensive two-semester course that places University of San Francisco with FSD programs. The curriculum provides a solid foundation for students before they work with our community partners, and the Sarlo Scholars continue to support strong outcomes for our beneficiary communities. We are grateful to collaborate on this program with such passionate and inspiring colleagues.

Greatnonprofits.org named FSD the Top-Rated Women's Empowerment Nonprofit in the nation! We owe this award to the extraordinary work of our partner organizations around the world that are working tirelessly to support gender equality in their communities.

FSD was awarded "Best of the West" as part of GreatNonprofit's Green Choice Awards 2009. Over the course of Earth Month, more than 26,000 people visited the GreatNonprofits website to review over 100 organizations. FSD's international development programs incorporate environmentally-focused initiatives in countries throughout the developing world.

Travel+Leisure featured FSD as one of its "Best Save-the-Earth Trips". FSD is one of ten organizations recognized for providing an alternative to world travelers where program participants visit sites around the world and develop skills in international development work. Visit Travel+Leisure's website to read the article and view their slideshow. FSD received further recognition when the article was syndicated by MSNBC.
