A Common Vision in ActionAfter clarifying objectives with an individual donor, FSD collaboratively designed and is currently implementing a $30,000 grant to our PDCB and Professional Development Funds. The grant comprehensively increases FSD’s community impact in our Nicaragua program through a customized portfolio of solutions that:

- Funds additional FSD staff dedicated to building capacity in our partner organizations
- Develops appropriate monitoring and evaluation systems to capture outcomes and overall impact

Grantmaking to Partner Organization: Building Economic Opportunity In Uganda
The Phoebe Education Fund for Orphans (PEFO) in Budondo established a vocational school that offers free training in tailoring and small business management to impoverished young women. Recognizing the need for enhanced training for graduates, PEFO collaborated with FSD to design and manage a post-graduate microenterprise program that produces low-cost, high quality uniforms for local students. Through a PDCB Fund Grant of $1,000, the program now allows hundreds of graduates to become financially self-sufficient, while offering affordable uniforms to countless families in the community.
Grantmaking to Intern Projects: Constructing Sustainable Water Solutions in India
The village of Magra lacks consistent access to potable water. The village is situated on rocky, hilly terrain, making traditional well-water systems prohibitively expensive to construct. The only existing well in the village dries up during the hot summer months, forcing the village women to carry water each day from seasonal streambeds more than a kilometer away. These streambeds can also dry up, forcing villagers to dig for groundwater beneath the surface, sometimes to no avail.
To support consistent and equitable access to potable water, FSD intern Elizabeth Thys and Foundation for Ecological Security (FES) consulted with community members and organized local labor to build a Rain Water Harvesting System (RWHRWHS). Information sessions were also held to train the community on how to maintain the RWHRWHS. Through a $791 PDCB Fund Grant and the hard work of FSD and our partner community, 150 villagers now have regular access to a 30,000 liter tank of rainwater.
